Tokens are the heart of every blockchain ecosystem—they coordinate incentives, secure networks, and empower community-driven evolution. But let's be real: sometimes token utilities get buried under jargon and complexity. Here, we'll simplify exactly how the Tanssi token works, how it fuels our ecosystem, and what is planned as we roll out additional features.

Quick Recap: What is Tanssi?

Tanssi makes launching your own blockchain (or "appchain") effortless. Think of it like Shopify, but for blockchains. Instead of dealing with infrastructure headaches, developers use Tanssi to rapidly deploy blockchains tailored to their specific needs, tapping into Ethereum-grade security. Our audience? Developers, network operators, and crypto enthusiasts who value simplicity without compromising on decentralization or security. Learn more about the Tanssi appchain protocol.

$TANSSI: Two Representations, One Ecosystem

$TANSSI is the economic engine that powers the Tanssi ecosystem—serving as both the "grease," ensuring seamless transactions, and the "gravity," attracting appchains, sequencers, and community participants.

To smoothly connect Tanssi with Ethereum’s broader ecosystem, $TANSSI exists in two interchangeable forms, linked by a trustless bridge, allowing frictionless token movement and maintaining a 1:1 balance.

  • Native $TANSSI (Substrate): Primarily supports operational and development-focused tasks within the Tanssi network.

  • ERC-20 $TANSSI (Ethereum): Makes staking, validation, and Ethereum-based participation simple and accessible for general users.

The table below breaks down each token’s use cases and features:

Utility Overview

Utility

Native $TANSSI (Substrate)

ERC-20 $TANSSI (Ethereum)

Transaction Fees

Pay for network transactions & token transfers.

-

Sequencing Fees

Pay fees for sequencing (block production).

-

Appchain Deployment

Required to launch and deploy appchains.

-

Bridge Operations

Pay for token bridging fees (Tanssi → Ethereum only; Ethereum → Tanssi requires $ETH)

-

Staking on Sequencers

Stake tokens risk-free (no slashing) for rewards.

-

Governance Participation

Vote on protocol upgrades and decisions.

-

Staking on Ethereum Operators

-

Stake tokens on Ethereum validators (coming soon).

Validator Rewards

-

Earn incentives for Ethereum-side validation.

Wallet Compatibility

Subwallet, Nova, Talisman or any Substrate-compatible wallet.

Metamask, Rabby or any Ethereum-compatible wallet.

How Tokens Fuel the Ecosystem

Clearly defined roles illustrate precisely how different stakeholders interact with $TANSSI tokens, each contributing to ecosystem value, security, and utility.

For Appchain Builders:

  • Sequencing-as-a-Service: Builders use native $TANSSI tokens to register appchains and pay sequencing fees, including optional "surge tips" during high-traffic periods. These fees directly fund the Tanssi treasury, aligning token use with network activity.

  • Shared Ethereum-level Security: Appchains paying sequencing fees in native $TANSSI automatically receive Ethereum-grade security through Symbiotic’s restaked ETH vaults and Tanssi’s decentralized sequencer pool, eliminating individual economic security overhead.

  • Simplified Cross-chain Bridging: Appchains use native $TANSSI tokens to bridge seamlessly to Ethereum, streamlining cross-chain interactions and reducing the complexity of handling multiple tokens.

For Token Holders:

  • On-chain Governance: Native $TANSSI holders can stake or delegate tokens to influence critical protocol decisions such as upgrades, fee adjustments, sequencer rules, and treasury allocations. Governance capabilities will mature progressively alongside network stability and growth.

  • Early Contributor Rewards: Campaigns like Journey-to-Mainnet and Let’s Forkin’ Launch distribute native $TANSSI to testers and active community members, broadening ownership and aligning incentives from the outset.

  • Staking on Ethereum Operators (coming soon): ERC-20 $TANSSI holders will soon be able to stake tokens with Ethereum-based validators through Symbiotic’s security vaults. This staking strengthens security, creates incentives, and ensures value remains within the ecosystem.

  • Sequencer Staking: Holders can stake native $TANSSI tokens on sequencers without any risk of slashing, securely contributing to network stability and earning incentives.

Node Operators:

  • For Sequencers:

    • Sequencing Revenue: Sequencers bond native $TANSSI to secure sequencing opportunities. Larger bonds result in greater sequencing participation, directly increasing earned fees and surge tips.

  • For Operators: Operators provide critical security to the entire Tanssi ecosystem. They run validation nodes that verify transactions for all appchains and produce blocks for Tanssi itself.

    • Network Validation: Operators stake ETH-based Liquid Staking Tokens (LSTs)—such as wstETH, LsETH, and others—to verify transactions, secure appchains, and ensure overall network integrity. In the future, ERC-20 $TANSSI tokens will also be supported for staking.

    • Earn Validator Rewards: Operators earn incentives paid out in ERC-20 $TANSSI for their essential role in safeguarding and supporting the Tanssi ecosystem.

The Economic Flywheel

Together, these utilities create a reinforcing cycle:

Stake tokens → Produce sequencing slots → Generate potential fees → Strengthen governance → Attract additional appchains and community engagement.

Each turn compounds the network’s overall security, utility, and value, sustainably driving ecosystem growth.

Roadmap: What’s Here and What’s Next?

At Launch:

Phase 1: Initial Token Utility

  • Claim your $TANSSI tokens if you participated in Let’s Forkin Dance (S1 & S2), Journey to Mainnet, or Let’s Forkin Launch.

  • Explore token community campaigns with exchanges.

After Launch:

Phase 2: $TANSSI ETH Token Staking

Stake Tanssi ERC-20 tokens on Ethereum operators through Symbiotic, enhancing network security and earning rewards.

Phase 3: Native Staking via Tanssi dApp

  • Seamlessly stake native Substrate tokens on sequencers directly through the Tanssi dApp.

Phase 4: Enhanced Integrations & Cross-chain Support

  • Expanded interoperability, deeper DeFi integrations, enhanced cross-chain capabilities, and strategic partnerships to grow the ecosystem.

Phase 5: Governance Activation

  • Activate transparent, community-driven governance to collectively steer Tanssi's evolution.
